Position 3 & 4: Spring 2008 Leader of the Teaching and Advising Team & THREE Teaching and Advising Team Members

Job Description:
Teaching and Advising Team (Deadline is Friday Jan 4th, 2008 - 10PM / The Earlier the better)

In general, to be part of the teaching and advising team you need to complete a special application (see the link below) no later than Friday Jan 4th, 2008 - 10PM - the earlier the better. This team will take only 4 members including the Leader of the Teaching and Advising Team. In case you were accepted in this team, this will be your only capstone project and no other projects or teams need to be selected or joined. We expect applicants to have strong passion for teaching, mentoring and advising to help college and high/middle school students. Creative approaches and multidisciplinary backgrounds (from math to science to technology to engineering) are a big plus.

The T&A team will help capstone students, NJIT-wide students and high school / middle school students. High school and middle school programs will be a major responsibility of our team. Please learn more about these programs at : www.realworldconnections.net

Additionally, we will also accept any number of volunteers who would like to help us regardless of credits or projects – in addition to their capstone project. We will reward this by extra credits and/or any other ways we can express our gratitude to them.

For the T&A team, we expect applicants not only to have a good knowledge in an area or two of their choice but to have creative approaches to present this knowledge to high school students from freshmen to senior (including games, ice breakers, animation, movie clips, class simulation activities, team-based activities, hands-on activities, competitions, etc.) . The idea is to make IT and non-IT education fun, challenging, relevant, appealing and well-connected to other disciplines and real world opportunities as opposed to “Geekness” and isolation.

Please review the application form at the link below to see how interdisciplinary and diverse our courses and teaching methods can be. This is an ongoing program and we will give you a lot of help and guidance. In addition to high school students, you will be involved in capstone Open University teaching to help capstone students, NJIT students, our open university network and our tri-state-wide community in hot topics that are on high demand in the industry today. Your availability in one or more of the following times is a big plus for your application:

 Wednesday 2:30-6PM at NJIT (as needed – not every Wednesday)
 Saturday 10AM-4PM at NJIT (almost every week – This is the most important day)
 Other possible days
